National Lampoon, Inc. (NLN), the most widely recognized brand in comedy, today announced that it has acquired the assets of Comedy Express, Inc., a multi-platform comedy media company. Under terms of the agreement, Comedy Express, which features content from well-known and emerging comic talent across broadband, wireless, and television, will become part of National Lampoon’s broad young adult distribution platforms. This platform includes the National Lampoon College Network, which reaches nearly one in four of all 18 to 24 year old college students in America today.
“Comedy Express did a great job of recognizing emerging comedic talent, with unique, original voices and points of view, along with building multiple distribution points,” said Daniel Laikin, Chief Executive Officer of National Lampoon. “This deal will enable National Lampoon to ‘adopt’ Comedy Express’ comedians and content, as well as harness its distribution relationships and experience in staging nationwide comedy events.”
In the past two years Comedy Express has launched its broadband TV channel, comedyexpresstv.com, which has been part of the National Lampoon Humor Network, and produced comedy events across the country, which have been packaged for DVD release. Events included last year’s highly successful nationwide College Comedy X Tour.
“We’re very excited to be aligning Comedy Express with National Lampoon, the number one brand in comedy,” said Lisa Jones Johnson, Chief Executive Officer, Comedy Express, Inc. “The synergies between the companies will create tremendous opportunities for National Lampoon.”
