A stalled hotel project on the Lower East Side is up for grabs. The site of an unfinished 16-story, 98-room hotel at 139-141 Orchard St. is on the block for $28 million, according to Michael DeCheser, director of sales for Massey Knakal Realty Services, which is exclusively marketing the property. Alternatively, that site can be purchased along with a five-story mixed-used building and vacant lot, located at 77-79 Rivington St. for a grand total of $35 million. Mr. DeCheser would not disclose the identity of the seller, however, according to public records the original developers of the project are no longer in control of the site. “The hotel is topped out with concrete and there is steel and some electrical work and plumbing put in,” he said. “It's a rare opportunity to complete a boutique hotel.” The hotel has an entrance on Allen Street and ground-floor space for retail. Meanwhile, the adjoining five-story building contains 16 rent-stabilized apartments and a vacant retail spot. The new owner can build a one-story retail structure on the vacant lot at 77 Rivington St., according to Mr. DeCheser. The developer of the stalled hotel known as Allen Street Hotel defaulted on its $19 million loan last year and the loan was acquired at a discount by Maverick Real Estate Partners, according to published reports. It is unclear who currently owns the site.
