The About Group Announces Executive Changes to Better Position Itself for Future Growth

Darline Jean has been named president and chief executive officer of the About Group, a unit of The New York Times Company, beginning September 1. Ms. Jean will report to Martin Nisenholtz, senior vice president, digital operations, The New York Times Company.

Ms. Jean was previously chief financial officer of the About Group and chief operating officer of About.com. In her new role, she will be responsible for the strategic direction of the business unit that includes About.com, CalorieCount.com and ConsumerSearch.com.

Karen Messineo, a vice president, finance, in The New York Times Media Group, has been named CFO of the About Group, effective September 1. Ms. Messineo will report to Ms. Jean.

Tracy Raiser has been appointed senior vice president, sales, the About Group. She will oversee advertising sales, research, sales development, client services and marketing, and will report to Ms. Jean. Previously she was vice president, sales, western region.

Frank Minishak has been appointed vice president, national sales, the About Group, overseeing the national advertising sales team. He had been vice president, advertising sales, eastern region. Mr. Minishak will report to Ms. Raiser.

Ms. Raiser’s and Mr. Minishak’s appointments are effective immediately.

Robinson, president and chief executive officer, The New York Times Company. “Darline’s experience and knowledge of the About Group makes her well-suited to continue overseeing the strategic investments being made across the business unit and its response to some of the shifts taking place in the search universe.”

As an integral member of the About Group senior leadership team, Ms. Jean has been responsible for the product management, content and product development functions of About.com, as well as for financial oversight of the About Group.

Ms. Jean joined About.com in 2003 as director of business analysis and subsequently held positions of vice president of finance, chief financial officer and senior vice president of emerging markets. She was instrumental in the sale of About.com to The New York Times Company in 2005.

Before joining the About Group, Ms. Jean was the director of financial planning & analysis at Thomson Media where she worked for 12 years. She began her career with Saatchi & Saatchi.

Ms. Jean holds a B.S. from the State University of New York and an M.B.A. from Long Island University.

Ms. Messineo, a certified public accountant, joined The New York Times as an accountant. She held various management positions in finance at The New York Times newspaper and was named controller in 1989, and vice president, chief financial officer in 1992. In 1999 Ms. Messineo joined NYTimes.com as vice president, finance, and was named chief financial officer of New York Times Digital in 2003. She started her career at the accounting firm now known as Deloitte & Touche. Ms. Messineo received a B.B.A. in accounting, summa cum laude, from Adelphi University.

Ms. Raiser joined the About Group in 2008 as vice president, sales, central region, and was promoted to vice president, sales, western region, in 2009. Previously she was an account director at AOL, LLC from 2002 to 2008. Ms. Raiser received her B.S. from Purdue University and her M.S. from Northwestern University.

Mr. Minishak joined the About Group in 2008 as vice president, sales, eastern region. Previously he was vice president, digital sales, at Madison Square Garden, LP, from 2007 to 2008, and before that was regional sales director for AOL, LLC from 1997 to 2007. Mr. Minishak also served in advertising sales roles at Juno Online Services, LP, and Rodale Press, Inc., and started his career at Press-Enterprise, Inc., in 1984. Mr. Minishak received a B.A. in business administration from Bloomsburg University.
