PORTLAND, Maine, May 23, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq:JBLU) today began low-fare service between Portland, ME and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with four daily nonstop flights. With this service, JetBlue will be the only airline to fly large mainline jets between Portland and New York, and it will make JetBlue the second largest airline at Portland International Jetport based on daily seat capacity. JetBlue is offering an introductory fare of $59(a) each way between Portland and New York, with regular fares ranging from $69(a) to $159(a) each way, which are 70% lower than the fares that existed for flights between these cities before JetBlue's announcement to begin service.
"We believe both Portland-area residents and visitors to Maine will benefit from lower fares and excellent service they'll find on JetBlue flights," said David Neeleman, JetBlue's Chairman and CEO. "Portland customers now have low-fare connecting service to more than 30 other JetBlue destinations across the country and in the Caribbean. On behalf of JetBlue's 10,000-plus crewmembers, we look forward to welcoming our new customers on board a JetBlue flight very soon."
JetBlue will serve Portland with Airbus A320 aircraft, offering the low-fare airline's signature 36 channels of DIRECTV(r) programming (b) at every leather seat. Members of JetBlue's TrueBlue Flight Gratitude program will earn two points for every nonstop flight to New York, with double points awarded for purchasing travel online at www.jetblue.com. In addition to nonstop service to New York/JFK, JetBlue customers in Portland will have connecting service to 34 other JetBlue destinations, including new service to Jacksonville, FL (service from JFK begins June 15), Pittsburgh, PA (service from JFK begins June 30), Charlotte, NC (service from JFK begins July 12), and Raleigh-Durham, NC (service from JFK begins July 20).
